- 3Paste into Facebook and preview the post before you publish.
How Facebook bold text works
Facebook's composer for profiles and Pages has no bold or italic option, and it doesn't turn Markdown or HTML into formatting. Type asterisks around a word and your readers just see the asterisks.
Unicode bold gets around that. Unicode includes complete alphabets of bold letters as separate characters, such as ๐, whose official name is "Mathematical Sans-Serif Bold Capital B" (Unicode chart). Facebook treats them like any other text, so ๐๐ผ๐น๐ฑ ๐ฆ๐ฎ๐ป๐ stays bold in the post on any device that has the characters.
This generator has 9 bold styles: Bold, Bold Sans, Bold Italic, Bold Italic Sans, Bold Cursive, Bold Gothic, Black Bubble, Black Squares and Starry Bold. For cursive, small caps, strikethrough and other looks, use the Facebook font generator.
Where bold text works on Facebook
Bold Unicode text pastes into almost every place you can type on Facebook:
- Posts on your profile, a Page or in a Group.
- Comments and replies.
- Your profile intro, the short bio at the top of your profile.
- Event descriptions.
- Marketplace listing descriptions. Keep the listing title plain so buyers searching for the item can find it.
The exception is names. Facebook's name rules for profiles don't allow symbols, unusual capitalization or characters from multiple languages (Facebook Help), and Page names can't include symbols or unnecessary punctuation (Facebook Help). Keep both plain.
Make long Facebook posts skimmable with bold labels
Facebook shows the first few lines of a post and hides the rest behind "See more". Two things help: a bold first line that tells people why to keep reading, and bold labels that let them jump to the part they need. For an event post, that might look like this:
- ๐ช๐ต๐ฒ๐ป: Saturday, 10am to 2pm
- ๐ช๐ต๐ฒ๐ฟ๐ฒ: the community hall on Main Street
- ๐ฃ๐ฟ๐ถ๐ฐ๐ฒ: free for members
Only the labels are bold. The details stay plain, so they're easy to copy, translate and read aloud. The same pattern works for menus, class schedules, job posts and product drops.
Use cases for bold text on Facebook
Who uses Facebook bold text, and for what:
Page posts and announcements
Open with a bold headline, like ๐๐ฟ๐ฎ๐ป๐ฑ ๐ผ๐ฝ๐ฒ๐ป๐ถ๐ป๐ด, then explain in plain text. For an announcement you want people to find later, bold labels make it easy to scan on a return visit.
Group rules and announcements
Admins can bold each rule's title (๐ฅ๐๐น๐ฒ ๐ญ:) and keep the explanation plain. Weekly threads benefit from a bold date or theme in the first line.
Ad hooks
A bold word at the start of ad copy can draw the eye, but every ad is reviewed against Meta's Advertising Standards and you pay for every impression. Keep the offer and any required terms in plain text, and test a plain version against the bold one.
Local business promos and events
Bold the offer and the deadline (๐ฆ๐ฎ๐น๐ฒ ๐ฒ๐ป๐ฑ๐ ๐ฆ๐๐ป๐ฑ๐ฎ๐) and keep your address, phone number and hours plain so people can tap, copy and search them.
Marketplace listings
In the description, bold labels like ๐๐ผ๐ป๐ฑ๐ถ๐๐ถ๐ผ๐ป: and ๐ฃ๐ถ๐ฐ๐ธ๐๐ฝ: answer the questions buyers would otherwise message you about.
Best practices and screen readers
- Bold labels and hooks, not paragraphs. A fully bold post is harder to read, not easier.
- Use one bold style per post. Bold Sans is the safest choice on every device.
- Keep names, links, hashtags and contact details plain.
- Watch your numbers. Bold, Bold Sans, Black Bubble and Starry Bold turn digits bold. The italic, cursive, gothic and square styles leave them plain.
- Preview on a phone. Black Bubble and Black Squares are the most likely to show as boxes on older devices.
Screen readers don't read Unicode bold as bold text. They may read each letter by its long Unicode name or skip the word entirely (Scope). If a Group member or customer relies on one, the bold line might be the part they miss. Make sure the post still says everything important in plain words.
Schedule bold Facebook posts with ViralFarm
ViralFarm schedules and publishes posts to your Facebook Page: text, photos, video or Reels. Paste your post with its bold labels, choose a time, and it goes into the queue. Bold text is ordinary Unicode, so it publishes the way you wrote it.
Line up a week of Page posts on the calendar, then reuse the same content on Instagram, LinkedIn or Threads with a different caption for each channel. The free plan includes 2 connected channels and 20 published posts a month, with no credit card.
Frequently asked questions
How do I make text bold on Facebook?
Facebook has no bold option for posts. Type your text in the generator above, copy a bold style and paste it into your post or comment. The bold letters are Unicode characters, so they stay bold after you post.
Is this Facebook bold text generator free?
Yes. It runs in your browser, needs no account, and has no limit on how much you copy.
Will Facebook block posts that use bold text?
We're not aware of any Facebook rule against Unicode characters in posts or comments. Names are different: Facebook's name rules don't allow symbols or unusual characters, so keep your profile and Page names plain.
Does bold text work in the Facebook app and on desktop?
Yes. Bold and Bold Sans display on current phones and computers. Each device uses its own fonts, so the letters can look slightly different from one to another.
Why do some bold letters show as boxes?
The device doesn't have a font with that character. It happens most with Black Bubble and Black Squares on older phones. Bold and Bold Sans are the safest choices.
Do numbers and punctuation turn bold?
Numbers do in Bold, Bold Sans, Black Bubble and Starry Bold. The italic, cursive, gothic and square styles leave digits plain. Punctuation and emoji never change in any style.
Does bold text count toward Facebook's character limit?
Yes, but Facebook posts allow far more text than most posts need, so it rarely matters. Readability is the real limit: only the first few lines show before See more.
Can I schedule Facebook posts that use bold text?
Yes. Bold text is ordinary Unicode, so a scheduler that publishes text keeps it. ViralFarm schedules posts to your Facebook Page, and its free plan covers 2 connected channels and 20 published posts a month.
