Facebook Page name guidelines, in plain English
Facebook reviews Page names against a short list of rules. Its Page name guidelines say a Page name has to accurately reflect what the Page is about, and that only authorized representatives can run a Page for a brand, place, organization or public figure. Here's what that means in practice, checked against those guidelines in October 2026.
A Page name can't include:
- Terms that are abusive or that violate someone else's rights.
- The word "official", unless the Page really is the official Page for that brand, place, organization or public figure.
- Odd capitalization. All caps is out too, except for acronyms. "SUNRISE yoga" and "SUNRISE YOGA" both fail. "Sunrise Yoga" and "Riverside CPR Training" pass.
- Symbols such as ® and unnecessary punctuation.
- A slogan or description added to the name. "Sunrise Yoga - Find your calm" should be "Sunrise Yoga", with the tagline in your About section.
- Any version of "Facebook", "Meta" or the names of Meta's other products.
A Page name also can't be only:
- One generic word, like "Yoga" or "Bakery".
- A broad place name, like "Chicago". A location is fine as part of a name ("Chicago Lakefront Cleanup") or for an organization that represents the place.
The generator follows these rules, so you won't get all-caps names, emojis or trademark symbols. Facebook still makes the final call when you create or rename a Page.
Your Page username and web address
The Page name is what people read. The username is what they type. Facebook shows your Page's username under the Page name and uses it in your web address, facebook.com/yourusername (Facebook Help). Facebook's username guidelines:
- Letters A to Z, numbers 0 to 9 and periods only. No spaces, hyphens or underscores.
- At least 5 characters.
- No generic terms and no domain endings like .com or .net, including country endings like .ca.
- Periods and capital letters don't make a username unique. "sunrise.yoga" and "SunriseYoga" count as the same username.
- One username per Page, and it can't already be in use.
New Pages sometimes can't set a username right away, and Facebook can remove the username of an inactive Page (Facebook Help). Changing your Page name later doesn't change the username (Facebook Help), so set both together and keep them matched. If the exact name is taken, add your city or a word about what you do: "sunriseyogadenver" is clearer than "sunriseyoga2".
Facebook Page name ideas by type of Page
The right name depends on who will look for your Page and what they'll type. A few patterns that work, with made-up examples:
Local businesses
People search for a service and a place. Your business name plus the service or the neighborhood works well: "Hilltop Bike Repair", "Northside Family Dental". If your legal name is vague ("J&R Services"), add what you do so the Page makes sense in search results.
Creators and public figures
Use the name your audience already knows, which is usually your own. If you want a separate Page for a show or series, name the format: "Sunday Garden Club with Maria". A creator Page that sounds like a company can confuse people who are looking for you.
Community and fan Pages
Fan and community Pages should make it clear that fans run them. "Fans of the Riverside Bears" is safer than "Riverside Bears", which reads like the team's own Page. Facebook's rule about the word "official" exists for exactly this situation.
Online shops and brands
Keep the brand name clean and put the product category in your username or About section if you need it. Short brand names read better in ads, on packaging and in shared posts, and they're easier to match on Instagram.
Nonprofits and causes
Lead with the mission or the place you serve: "Eastside Food Pantry", "Lake Erie Shoreline Cleanup". Skip acronyms that nobody outside the organization would recognize, unless the acronym is already well known in your area.
How to pick from your shortlist
- Search it on Facebook. If several Pages already use the name, people may follow the wrong one. A distinct name is easier to grow.
- Check the username. Try your favorite as a username first. If the name works but every sensible version of the username is taken, keep looking.
- Check Instagram and TikTok. Most businesses run Facebook and Instagram together. Matching names and handles make cross-promotion simple.
- Read it on a phone. Page names show up in feeds, comments and search results on small screens. Shorter names stay readable.
- Leave room to grow. "Austin Dog Grooming Van" works until you buy a second van or move to the suburbs.
Changing a Facebook Page name later
You can request a new Page name from your Page's settings, under Page setup, then Name (Facebook Help). Facebook treats it as a request: you review the change, confirm with your password and submit it, and the new name has to meet the same guidelines as a new Page.
A few things can block a change. You need full Facebook access to the Page, because people with task access can't request a new name. If you or another admin renamed the Page recently, the option may be missing for a while. Regional Pages that sit under a global Page can't be renamed on their own. And a new name doesn't update your username, so change that separately if it no longer fits.
The simplest path is to choose well from the start. It saves you a review, a username change and a round of updated links.
Fill your new Page with posts
A named Page with no posts doesn't convince anyone. ViralFarm schedules and publishes posts to Facebook along with Instagram, TikTok, Pinterest, LinkedIn, Threads, YouTube and X, from one queue and calendar. Write a post once, adjust the caption for each channel, and pick a time.
If you're short on ideas, ViralFarm's AI turns a link, a topic or pasted text into slideshows, Pinterest pins and text posts, using templates modeled after posts that went viral. The Free plan connects 2 channels and covers 20 published posts a month, no credit card required.
Frequently asked questions
Is the Facebook Page name generator free?
Yes. Use it on this page with no account. There is a daily limit per visitor so the tool stays quick for everyone.
Will Facebook approve the names it suggests?
The generator follows Facebook's Page name guidelines, so its ideas avoid the usual problems: all caps, symbols, slogans and the word "official". Facebook still reviews names itself and checks that a name accurately reflects the Page, so pick one that matches what your Page really is.
Can I use emojis in a Facebook Page name?
It's best not to. Facebook's guidelines rule out symbols and unnecessary punctuation in Page names, and emojis are likely to be treated the same way. Use emojis in your posts and About section instead.
Can two Facebook Pages have the same name?
Facebook requires usernames to be unique, but its help pages don't say the same about Page names, and plenty of Pages share similar names. That's why your username matters: it's the one part of your Page's identity nobody else can have.
How short can a Facebook Page username be?
At least 5 characters, using only letters, numbers and periods. Usernames can't include generic terms or domain endings like .com, and periods or capital letters don't count as a difference.
Should I put my city in my Page name?
If you serve a local area, yes. Adding the city or neighborhood helps people recognize you and tells them you're nearby. Facebook allows a location as part of a Page name, just not a general place name on its own.
How do I change my Facebook Page name?
Switch into your Page, open Settings and privacy, then Settings, then Page setup, then Name. Click Edit next to the Page name, enter the new name, review it and request the change. Facebook reviews the request before the new name appears.
