X profile limits

Your X profile has a few text fields, and each has its own job. From X's Help Center, checked in October 2026:

  • Bio: up to 160 characters (X Help).
  • Name (display name): up to 50 characters. You can change it any time (X Help).
  • Username: more than 4 and up to 15 characters, using letters, numbers and underscores only (X Help).
  • Location and website: separate fields, so you don't need to spend bio characters on them.
  • Header and profile photos: X recommends 1500x500 pixels for the header and 400x400 pixels for the profile photo (X Help).

To edit, go to your profile and click Edit profile. This generator writes the bio: five options per click, each 160 characters or fewer. It runs on Claude, Anthropic's AI model, and varies the structure from one option to the next, so you can compare a punchy one-liner with a fuller bio before you choose. It's free and doesn't need an account.

What a strong X bio says

People decide whether to follow you on X from a reply or a repost, often in a couple of seconds. A bio that earns the follow usually answers three questions:

  1. What do you do? A role, a craft or a project. "Product designer at a fintech startup."
  2. What will you post? "Writing about onboarding, pricing pages and UX research."
  3. Why trust you? A number, a past project or a credential. "Shipped redesigns used by 2M people."

Add a call to action if you have something to point at, like a newsletter or a product, and put the link in the website field. Leave out anything that doesn't help a stranger decide.

X bio styles by account type

The right bio depends on why people follow you. Some patterns, with sample bios:

Founders and builders

Name what you're building and promise progress. "Building a budgeting app for freelancers. Sharing revenue, mistakes and what's working, every week."

Writers and journalists

Lead with your beat and where your work appears. If your employer asks for a disclaimer like "views my own", keep it short so it doesn't crowd out your beat.

Creators

Point to your main platform and your niche. "Making 60-second science videos. New experiment every Thursday." It tells people what they'll see in their feed.

Brands

Say what you make and how you use X. "Coffee roasters in Denver. Brew tips, new roasts and the occasional bean pun." Followers know what to expect, and the tone shows through.

Experts and consultants

State the problem you solve and for whom. "Helping B2B teams fix the handoff from sales to success. Former VP of Sales. Posts on pipeline and hiring."

Make your bio and pinned post work together

Your bio says what you do. A pinned post at the top of your profile can prove it, since it's the first post visitors see (X Help). Pin your best thread, a launch, a popular post or a short introduction, and write the bio to match. If your bio says you write about pricing, the pinned post should be your best one on pricing.

Revisit both when your focus changes. A visitor who sees a bio about one thing and a pinned post about another can't tell what they'll get by following.

X bio mistakes to avoid

  • A stack of titles. "Dad | Runner | Founder | Investor | Coffee lover" says who you are at a party, not what you'll post.
  • Buzzwords. "Passionate innovator" and "thought leader" take space and say nothing specific.
  • Too many emojis. One or two help. Ten make the bio hard to scan.
  • An old project. If your bio points to something you stopped working on, update it.
  • Wasted space. 160 characters is short. Put your location and link in their own fields.

Schedule the rest of your X presence

Once your profile is set, the next challenge is posting consistently. ViralFarm schedules and publishes X posts from the same queue and calendar as TikTok, Instagram, Pinterest, LinkedIn, Threads, Facebook and YouTube, and supports long posts for X Premium accounts.

ViralFarm's AI can turn a link, a topic or pasted text into text posts, and our free X character counter checks length before you post. The Free plan connects 2 channels with 20 published posts a month, no credit card required.

Whenever your role, project or focus changes, and whenever you change your pinned post. A quick check every couple of months keeps it accurate.

Is the X bio generator free?
