There are two ways to connect Instagram to Facebook, and they do different jobs. To link your Instagram account with your personal Facebook profile, open Instagram, tap the menu on your profile, go to Accounts Center, and add your Facebook account. To link an Instagram professional account to a Facebook Page for ads, a shared inbox and cross-posting, connect the Page from Instagram's Edit profile screen or from the Page's Linked accounts settings on Facebook.
The Accounts Center link is about you as a person: one login, shared settings and sharing Stories or posts to your Facebook profile. The Page link is about a business or creator brand. Sharing from a personal Instagram account to a Facebook Page is no longer available, so if you want your Instagram posts on a Page, you need a Creator or Business account.
Below are the steps for both, what to set up first, and fixes for the errors that come up most.
| What you want | Connection you need | Where to do it |
|---|---|---|
| One login and shared settings across Instagram and Facebook | Accounts Center (or Meta Account) | Instagram or Facebook settings > Accounts Center |
| Share Instagram Stories or posts to your Facebook profile | Accounts Center | Instagram or Facebook settings > Accounts Center |
| Share Instagram posts, Reels and Stories to a Facebook Page | Professional account linked to the Page | Instagram Edit profile, or Page settings > Linked accounts |
| Run ads on both apps and manage DMs in one inbox | Professional account linked to the Page | Instagram Edit profile, or Page settings > Linked accounts |
Why connect Instagram and Facebook
What improves after you connect
- Cross-posting. Share a post, Reel or Story to Facebook as you publish it on Instagram, or turn on automatic sharing.
- Ads. Run ads from your Page that also appear on Instagram, and pay for promotions with the same payment method.
- One inbox. Manage Instagram DMs and comments with Facebook messages in Meta Business Suite.
- Shared tools. Access features that span both apps, like appointment buttons and donation stickers.
- Easier logins. Accounts Center lets you use the same login and manage security for both apps in one place.
Messages, friends and followers stay separate in each app. Connecting doesn't merge your audiences or post anything on its own.
Before you connect
Make your Instagram account professional (for Pages)
Only Creator and Business accounts can connect to a Facebook Page. Switch under Menu > Account type and tools > Switch to professional account. Professional accounts are public, so a private account becomes public when you switch.
Check your Page access
You need full control of the Facebook Page. Partial or task access isn't enough. If someone else set up the Page, ask them to give you full control in the Page's access settings.
Pick the right account type
| Situation | Best Instagram account type |
|---|---|
| Sharing with friends and family | Personal, linked through Accounts Center |
| Influencer, artist or public figure | Creator, linked to your Page |
| Brand, shop, local business or service | Business, linked to your Page |
| Planning to run ads on both apps | Creator or Business, linked to your Page |
How to add Instagram and Facebook to the same Accounts Center
From the Instagram app
- Go to your profile and tap the menu icon (three lines) in the top right.
- Tap Accounts Center at the top of Settings.
- Tap Profiles (labeled Accounts in some versions), then Add accounts.
- Choose Add Facebook account, log in, and confirm.
From Facebook
- Open the Facebook menu and go to Settings & privacy > Settings.
- Tap Accounts Center.
- Add your Instagram account the same way and log in to Instagram when asked.
Meta is gradually moving people to Meta Accounts, so you may see Meta Account settings instead of Accounts Center. In that case, open Meta Account settings, tap Manage account, then Add profiles and devices.

How to connect an Instagram professional account to a Facebook Page from Instagram
While switching to a professional account
The setup flow asks if you want to connect a Facebook Page. Tap Login to Facebook, pick the Page, and you're done. You can skip it and connect later.
After you've already switched
- Go to your profile and tap Edit profile.
- Under Public business information, tap Page.
- Choose your Page from the list, or create a new one, and confirm.
- Approve the permissions Facebook asks for. Declining some of them is a common cause of later errors.
Menu labels shift between app versions. If you don't see the Page option, use the Facebook Page method below.
Connecting from your Facebook Page
This route works well on a computer and is handy if you manage several Pages.
- On Facebook, switch into the Page you want to connect.
- Click the Page's profile picture, then Settings & privacy > Settings.
- In the left menu, click Linked accounts.
- Next to Instagram, choose to connect, then click Connect account.
- Log in to Instagram and follow the prompts.
Turn on cross-posting
Once the Page is connected, open Instagram's menu and tap Crossposting. Under Share to Facebook as, select your Page, then toggle automatic sharing for posts, Stories or Reels. You can still switch sharing off for any single post with the Also share on... option when you publish.
Schedule Instagram and Facebook from one place with ViralFarm
Linking the two apps makes cross-posting possible, but Meta's tools only cover Meta's apps. ViralFarm schedules Instagram posts, carousels, Reels and Stories alongside Facebook, TikTok, Pinterest, LinkedIn, Threads, YouTube and X, with a separate caption for each channel when you want one.
ViralFarm connects to Instagram with your Instagram login, so you don't need a Facebook Page linked just to schedule Instagram posts. You do need a Business or Creator account. Connect your Facebook Page as its own channel and publish to both from one queue.
Troubleshooting common connection errors
| Problem | Quick fix |
|---|---|
| Your Page doesn't appear in the list | Make sure you're logged in to the Facebook profile that has full control of the Page |
| "Page" option is missing in Instagram | Switch to a Creator or Business account first, then update the app |
| Permission errors | Disconnect, reconnect and approve every permission in the Facebook dialog |
| Page is already linked to another Instagram account | Disconnect the old Instagram account from the Page first |
| Login loop or blank screen | Use a private browser window, clear cookies for Facebook and Instagram, or try another browser |
How to disconnect
To unlink a Page, go back to the Page's Linked accounts settings and disconnect Instagram. To separate profiles in Accounts Center, open it, select the profile and remove it. With a Meta Account, use Manage > Move out of this Meta Account. If you pay for Meta Verified on a linked Page and Instagram account, disconnecting them can cancel the subscription in some cases.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need a business account to connect Instagram to Facebook?
Not for Accounts Center, which works with personal accounts. To connect Instagram to a Facebook Page, you need a Creator or Business account.
Can I share posts from a personal Instagram account to a Facebook Page?
No. That option is no longer available. Switch to a professional account and connect the Page, or share to your personal Facebook profile through Accounts Center instead.
Will connecting my accounts merge my followers or messages?
No. Followers, friends and messages stay separate. Connecting only enables shared settings, cross-posting and shared tools.
Can I connect one Instagram account to more than one Facebook Page?
No. An Instagram professional account connects to one Page at a time, and your Instagram posts can only be shared to Facebook through that Page.
Why does Facebook say I don't have permission to connect the Page?
You probably have partial or task access. Ask a Page admin to give you full control, then try again.
Can I disconnect later?
Yes. Disconnect the Page from Linked accounts or remove the profile from Accounts Center at any time. Your posts stay where they were published.
