How to Collab on TikTok: Duet, Stitch, Collab Posts and Brand Deals

October 10, 2026 · Annie Yang · 7 minute read

The quickest way to collab on TikTok is a Duet or a Stitch. Find the video you want to work with, tap the Share button on the side, then tap Duet to record next to it in a split screen, or Stitch to put a clip of it at the start of your own video. Record, edit, and post.

For a collab you plan together with another creator, you have a few more tools: tag them in the post, invite them as a collaborator if your app shows that option (TikTok has been testing Instagram-style collab posts), or go LIVE together. Brand collaborations run through TikTok One and need the content disclosure setting turned on.

This guide covers each option step by step, which one fits which goal, and how to find and work with collab partners without the usual mess of missed posts and mismatched captions.

How to Duet on TikTok

  1. Open the video you want to Duet and tap the Share button on the side.
  2. Tap Duet at the bottom. You may need to swipe the row of options to find it.
  3. Add effects or filters and adjust the camera tools.
  4. Tap the record button to start and stop, then tap the check mark to continue.
  5. Add text, stickers, a voice effect or other edits.
  6. Tap Next to add a description, hashtags, tags and privacy settings, or tap Your Story to post it as a Story.
  7. Tap Post, or save it to Drafts.

A few rules: the original creator needs a public account and has to allow Duets, so not every video has the option. Your Duet shows on your profile only, and the original stays on theirs. Your own privacy settings decide who can watch and interact with your Duet.

How to Stitch on TikTok

  1. Tap the Share button on the video you want to Stitch.
  2. Tap Stitch, choose the part of the video you want to use, then tap Next.
  3. Pick a maximum length for your video.
  4. Record your part and tap the check mark.
  5. Edit with text, stickers and effects.
  6. Tap Next to finish the post details, or Your Story to share it as a Story.
  7. Tap Post.

Pick the moment you Stitch carefully. The best Stitches use a clip that sets up a clear question or claim, so your part reads as the answer. Cutting in mid-sentence just confuses people.

Control who can Duet or Stitch your videos

In your privacy settings you can allow Duets and Stitches from Everyone or only Friends (followers you follow back), or turn them off. You can also switch them off for a single post, and delete Duets or Stitches made from your video. If you want more Duets, leave the setting open and say so in the caption.

Co-created posts: tags, mentions and collab posts

When you film something together, make sure both audiences can find both creators.

  • Tag each other. In the post details, use the tag people option, and @mention your partner in the description.
  • Post both sides. A common pattern is each creator posting their own cut, with their own hook, on the same day.
  • Use collab posts if you have them. TikTok has been testing a Collaborations feature similar to Instagram's Collabs. In the version reported by Social Media Today, a creator could invite up to five collaborators, invites were limited to four times a month, each collaborator had to approve, the post appeared on every collaborator's profile, and only the original creator could edit it. If your posting screen shows an option to invite a collaborator, that's this feature. If not, tags and mentions do the job.

How to find creators to collab with

Look at the audience, not just the follower count

The best partner has an audience that would care about your content, not the biggest number. Read the comments on their recent videos. If those people would also enjoy your videos, it's a match.

Check that their views are consistent

Scroll their last 20 videos. Steady views with real comments are a better sign than one viral hit surrounded by tiny numbers. Sudden follower spikes with no engagement can mean bought followers.

Start small

Duet or Stitch someone first, or reply thoughtfully to their videos. Then send a short DM with a specific idea: what the video is, who does what, and why it suits both audiences. "Let's collab sometime" rarely gets a reply.

Plan the collab so both sides deliver

  • Agree on one idea. Write a two-line outline: the hook, the payoff, and each person's part.
  • Split the work. Who films, who edits, who supplies props or locations.
  • Set a posting date and time. Posting both versions close together sends both audiences across while the topic is fresh.
  • Share captions in advance. Agree on tags, mentions and any hashtags so nothing is missing on the day.
  • Review results together. Compare views, comments and follower gains on both sides and decide whether to do a part two.

Brand collaborations on TikTok

If a brand is paying you or sending free products, the rules change. TikTok expects you to turn on the content disclosure setting when you post, so the video is labeled as branded or promotional content. Advertising rules in many countries, such as the FTC's guidance in the US, also require a clear disclosure.

Brands and creators can find each other on TikTok One, TikTok's hub for creator partnerships, where brands post campaigns and invite creators. Two or more creators pitching a brand together can offer something a single creator can't, such as a series that crosses both audiences. Agree up front on usage rights, deadlines and who approves the final cut.

Coordinate collab posts with ViralFarm

The hard part of a collab is often the timing. ViralFarm lets you schedule your side of the collab to TikTok, and post the same video to Instagram Reels and YouTube Shorts with a caption written for each. With TikTok's "send to drafts" mode, the video lands in your TikTok drafts so you can add the collaborator tag, a sound or a Duet setting in the app right before it goes live.

ViralFarm can also generate TikTok photo slideshows from a topic or link, which work well for joint tip lists or "two creators, one question" formats. The TikTok photo resizer gets your images to the right size first.

Frequently asked questions

Why can't I Duet or Stitch a video?

The creator may have turned Duets or Stitches off, limited them to Friends, or have a private account. Only public accounts can allow others to Duet or Stitch their videos.

Does a Duet show up on both creators' profiles?

No. A Duet or Stitch appears only on the profile of the person who made it. The original video stays on the original creator's profile.

Can I remove a Duet someone made with my video?

Yes. TikTok lets you delete Duet and Stitch videos associated with your post, and you can report any that break the Community Guidelines.

How many people can collaborate on one TikTok post?

In TikTok's reported test of collab posts, up to five collaborators could be invited to a post. The feature isn't available on every account, so check your posting screen for an invite option.

Can I post a Duet or Stitch to my Story?

Yes. After recording, tap Your Story instead of Next.

Do I need to disclose a brand collab?

Yes. Turn on TikTok's content disclosure setting when posting paid or gifted content, and follow your country's advertising rules.
